John Sloss Founder and Partner John Sloss represents clients in all aspects of motion picture financing, production and distribution, including motion picture producers, directors, writers, actors and broadcast networks. His clients include Killer Films, Richard Linklater, Kevin Smith, Bob Dylan, John Hamburg, Louis C.K., Justin Lin, Jake Kasdan, the Isle of Man's CinemaNX and Big Beach Films. He is a partner at, and the founder of, Sloss Eckhouse LawCo LLP. Additionally, he is the founder of Cinetic Media and the digital sales initiative, Cinetic Rights Management, and recently co-founded Producers Distribution Agency, the theatrical distributor of Senna and Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop. Sloss has executive produced over 50 films including the Academy Award©-winning The Fog of War and Boys Don’t Cry. Mr. Sloss is a graduate of the University of Michigan (BA, 1978, high distinction) and the University of Michigan School of Law (JD, 1981). Prior to founding Sloss Law Office in 1993, Sloss was a partner at the international law firm Morrison & Foerster. Mr. Sloss lectures extensively on the subject of global entertainment finance, as well as a variety of other media and entertainment-related matters. He is an adjunct professor in the Graduate film program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He was named to the New York Super Lawyers in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Jacqueline Eckhouse Partner Jacqueline Eckhouse has been a partner at Sloss Eckhouse LawCo LLP since 2002. Ms. Eckhouse's practice is focused on film and television contract negotiation. She represents actors, writers, directors, producers and production companies. Prior to joining Sloss Eckhouse Brennan LawCo, Ms. Eckhouse was an associate with Brown & Wood, where she practiced corporate securities law, and then with Frankfurt, Garbus, Klein & Selz, where she practiced entertainment law. She is a graduate of Brandeis University (BA, 1993, magna cum laude) and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (JD, 1996). Josh Grier Of Counsel Josh Grier has been specializing in providing counsel on music industry matters since 1987. He provides expert representation to a wide variety of industry talent including musicians, songwriters, producers, managers and executives. Mr. Grier also provides counsel to institutional clients, including independent record labels, recording studios and media companies. While Mr. Grier’s personal involvement generally involves transactional matters, he has also overseen numerous litigations in the music industry disputes, including copyright infringements and royalty recoveries. Notable clients of Mr. Grier are World Wrestling Entertainment, TuneCore, Diana Krall, Wilco, Fountains of Wayne, Bob Mould, Adam Schlesinger, James Iha, The B-52s, Ian Hunter, Melody Gardot, David Gilmour, Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams and Robert Randolph, among many others. Prior to joining Sloss Eckhouse LawCo, Mr. Grier was a chairperson of the Entertainment Department at Dreier LLP, and before that a partner in the Entertainment Department at Pryor Cashman LLP in New York. He began his legal career at Grubman Indursky & Schindler, P.C. in 1987. Prior to moving to New York City, Mr. Grier worked for Record Bar Inc. in North Carolina, where he was General Manager of its in-house record labels. Mr. Grier has contributed to a number of entertainment industry publications. In addition to authoring numerous newspaper and magazine articles, he was a contributor to Rolling Stone’s Alt-Rocka-A-Rama by Rolling Stone Press (edited by Scott Schneider, 1996) and Pitfalls Of Practice by the New York State Bar Association (edited by Joanne White, 1993). Mr. Grier is a member of the Bar of the States of New York and North Carolina. He received a B.A. in Economics from Southern Illinois University in 1978 and his J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1981. He was named to the New York Super Lawyers in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Jerry L. Dasti Associate Jerry L. Dasti advises clients on a wide variety of film and television industry matters, with a particular emphasis on advising and representing filmmakers, producers and production companies in all phases of the development and production process. Mr. Dasti also has extensive experience negotiating distribution and licensing agreements, on behalf of both rights holders and distributors, and he regularly advises clients with respect to intellectual property concerns. Mr. Dasti’s clients include production companies, television networks, distributors, and financiers, as well as individual actors, writers, producers and directors. Prior to joining Sloss Eckhouse LawCo, Mr. Dasti was an associate in the litigation department at Proskauer Rose LLP. Mr. Dasti is a graduate of American University (BA, 1997, magna cum laude) and New York University School of Law (JD, 2002), where he was an Executive Editor of the NYU Law Review. Bethany Haynes Associate Bethany Haynes is an associate whose practice primarily focuses on film and television production. Her clients include individual producers, actors, directors, musicians and production companies. Prior to joining Sloss Eckhouse LawCo, Ms. Haynes was an associate in the corporate finance department at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Ms. Haynes is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College (BA, 1998, cum laude) and the University of Chicago Law School (JD, 2004). She is admitted to practice in New York. Ms. Haynes is the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of HERE Arts Center. Jaime Herman Associate Jaime Herman is an associate whose practice primarily focuses on music industry matters, including artist representation, music publishing administration and licensing, in addition to transactional work in film and television production. Her clients include musicians, songwriters, composers, music producers and film production companies. Prior to joining Sloss Eckhouse, Ms. Herman was an associate in the entertainment department at Dreier LLP. Jaime is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (BA, 2001, cum laude) and Brooklyn Law School (JD, 2005). She is admitted to practice in New York. She is a member of the entertainment division of the New York State Bar Association, as well as the nationwide organization Women In Music. Karen Segall Associate Karen Segall is an associate who represents a variety of clients, including individual producers, actors, directors, musicians and production companies. Her practice primarily focuses on television and film production with an emphasis on production legal and clearance issues. Prior to joining Sloss Eckhouse LawCo, Ms. Segall was an associate at the entertainment law firm of Franklin Weinrib Rudell & Vassallo, P.C. and before that an associate in the corporate department at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP.
